Slovakia will play an active role in the upcoming international conference on peace in Ukraine, scheduled for June in Switzerland, Világgazdaság reports.
The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs in Bratislava affirmed Slovakia’s staunch commitment to a peaceful resolution, as conveyed in a statement released on Friday and quoted by Slovak public news agency TASR. Prime Minister Robert Fico will represent Slovakia at the Bürgenstock peace conference from June 15-16.

Marek Eštok, the ministry’s state secretary, emphasized Slovakia’s pro-peace stance despite ongoing conflicts and arms deliveries to Ukraine. Mr. Eštok highlighted the need for a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace, rooted in the principles of the UN Charter.
He viewed the conference as an opportunity to establish the groundwork for peace.
The Slovak government has consistently advocated for a peaceful settlement in Ukraine and has declined to provide arms to Kiev, asserting that military solutions are untenable.
Prime Minister Fico reaffirmed the country’s stance against deploying troops to Ukraine during a recent session in the Bratislava legislature. He responded to French President Emmanuel Macron’s statements, asserting Slovakia’s non-involvement in the conflict and rejecting any requests for troop deployment.
Mr. Fico condemned suggestions, such as those from The Economist, insinuating a willingness to send troops to Ukraine. He stressed that such notions could exacerbate tensions, potentially leading to broader conflict.
