FIFA (‘International Association Football Federation’) has published the latest world ranking of national teams, with Argentina remaining in first place and Hungary moving up one place to 26th, reports Index.
The team that beat Turkey 1-0 and Kosovo 2-0 in their March pre-season matches are now unbeaten in 14 matches, and have moved up the rankings. Marco Rossi’s team has climbed to 26th place with 1,532.2 points, ahead of Sweden (1,531.68), closely followed by Poland (1,531.49) and Wales (1,531.38).
They were last ranked 26th in January 2017, but in September that year they slipped to 59th, from where they had to start climbing again.
The best ranking was in April and May 2016, when the team qualifying for the European Championship was 18th, although 925 points were enough to get there.
World Cup holder Argentina remains top of the table, ahead of World Cup finalist France. England, who lost to Brazil, was overtaken by Belgium in third place – the five-time world champion Brazil remained fifth.
Among Hungary’s European rivals, Germany (1,644.21) is 16th, Switzerland (1,616.41) 19th, and Scotland (1,497.46) 39th.
Among Hungary’s Nations League rivals, the Netherlands have slipped back behind Portugal to seventh place, Germany has been mentioned above as 16th, and Bosnia and Herzegovina have dropped three places to 74th.
