Budapest Applies to Organize Champions League Finals

MTI-Hungary Today 2024.04.05.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Defense on Thursday, the government has decided to support the Hungarian Football Federation’s bid to host the Champions League final in 2026 or 2027, and to provide the necessary guarantees.

“A valid bid for a Champions League final is conditional on the government representative – in this case, the Ministry of Defense – being authorized to sign the declarations required and drafted by UEFA. The declarations include the necessary guarantees,” the statement said.

Since its inauguration in 2019, Puskás Arena has already hosted a Europa League final, a UEFA Super Cup match, and European Championship matches, which have been a success with both the continental association and spectators. A decision on the winning bid is expected in May.

Fact

Puskás Arena is the largest sports facility in Hungary. Its seating capacity is 67,150 people at a time. The current arena was built on the site of the demolished Puskás Ferenc Stadium (formerly Népstadion) in 2016, using material from the concrete of the former building.
