China will provide visa-free travel for Hungarian citizens until the end of November. Furthermore, from April, 13 flights a week will connect Budapest with four major Chinese cities: Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, and Ningbo, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade wrote on his Facebook page on Thursday.
According to Péter Szijjártó, tourism is one of the most successful areas of Hungarian-Chinese cooperation. In the year before the outbreak of the COVID pandemic, 277,000 Chinese tourists visited Hungary, and last year, following the resumption of tourism after the pandemic, this number reached nearly 100,000 again.

For Hungarian tourists and businessmen traveling to China, it is good news that following negotiations with the Chinese government,
the Chinese authorities will grant visa-free travel for Hungarian citizens between March 14 and November 30 this year,
the Minister emphasized.
In a spirit of reciprocity, the Hungarian authorities will grant long-term visas on first application to senior executives of major Chinese companies investing in Hungary. These decisions will further strengthen economic and tourism cooperation between Hungary and China, as well as people-to-people contacts, Péter Szijjártó added.
As Hungary Today previously reported, relations between Hungary and China have recently become increasingly amicable, and in mid-February, Minister Sándor Pintér met the Chinese Minister of Public Security. It was also decided that “police officers from the two countries will be able to jointly carry out patrol duties in the future, thus helping to improve communication between citizens and authorities of the two countries, and enhancing internal security and public order.” The cooperation agreement is aimed at improving security in tourist areas of the two countries during peak tourist periods and generally during events that attract large crowds, according to the Ministry of Interior.
