The director has been working for years on Megalopolis, an unprecedented, new technology, virtual effects-rich mega-project. Coppola is also financing the film, set in New York about an architect, out of his own pocket. He has even reportedly sold his California vineyards to raise funds.
On the last day of his stay in Hungary, the director wanted to surprise the orchestra, and as he wrote,
he appreciated the musicality and friendliness he had experienced in Hungary, so he conducted the Hungarian National Anthem.

“I so appreciated both the musicianship and friendliness of the Hungarian orchestra that I wanted to express my gratitude as I spoke to them on our last day of recording. Standing on the conductor’s platform I picked up the baton as if I were about to lead them in a performance, tapping on the music stand. Of course I had not prepared anything, but in my mind I assumed that they knew how to play their national anthem and whispered “What time signature is it in?,” he recounted the extraordinary experience, accompanied by a video.
