Hungarian Cinematographer Shoots Legendary Gucci Christmas Ad

Hungary Today 2023.11.20.

A Hungarian filmmaker, who currently lives in the U.S., captured the Christmas spirit in an ad for Gucci, writes ripost.hu. It is not the first time the Hungarian cinematographer, Marcell Rév, has worked with the global brand. Last year brought him worldwide success after winning an Emmy for his work on HBO’s Euphoria.

The products on sale are decorated with Christmas bows, Christmas music is playing in the background and all goods are offered as Christmas gifts – this can be seen in a typical festive advertisement. However, there is also an artistic level to Christmas advertising, when the festive ad about love and time together brings tears to our eyes. Marcell Rév captured and presented the time spent together extremely beautifully in Gucci’s new holiday ad.

In keeping with the fashion brand, the commercial takes us from the skyscrapers of New York, to the interiors, where the finishing touches are put on the decorations. In the ad, we peek through the windows of apartments to see how people are getting ready for the holidays. What is interesting about the commercial is that it is shot with hidden cuts, hence you can move between locations without breaking the rhythm. It is as if the camera is constantly zooming out of the frame.

The message of the campaign is that no matter how we celebrate, the important thing is to spend Christmas together.

This is not the first time the Emmy-winning Hungarian cinematographer has worked with the fashion brand. Before the Christmas campaign, Rév shot an ad for the luxury Gucci brand featuring the new face of the brand, singer-songwriter Billie Eilish.
