New Military Cyberspace Command Inaugurated

The Military National Security Service (Katonai Nemzetbiztonsági Szolgálat) works for the Hungarian people and ensures their security even in the face of the challenges of the 21st century, said Minister of Defense Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky at the dedication ceremony of the organization’s Cyberspace Operations Center in Budapest on October 2.

He added that the Military National Security Service is “a particularly important national treasure,” whose development is an important milestone in the history of Hungarian military development. He recalled that the government had started the development of the armed forces years before the war in Ukraine. The minister noted that since the 1950s, when the barracks of the radio reconnaissance regiment was the current location of the Military National Security Service, technology has changed a lot and we have to adapt to it.

Information technology networks are weaving their way through our lives at the speed of light, creeping into our everyday lives, but also infiltrating military operations,”

he noted.

The minister stressed that the use of cyberspace for military operations has made it necessary to build the Cyberspace Operations Center of the Military National Security Service, bringing all the knowledge and capabilities together in one place. He pointed out that the service of the staff at the center is special, because although it does not involve “injury or bloodshed,” it means continuous and permanent work.

The minister said that the center would serve the security of the Hungarian people in the face of the challenges of the 21st century. The building was blessed by Brigadier General Tibor Berta, Catholic army bishop, and Lieutenant Colonel László Mészáros, Protestant army pastor.
