Together with the awards ceremony, the 39th Hungarian Press Photo Exhibition was officially opened on Thursday. After the category winners were made public in April, this was the time when the two grand prize winners were announced. Here are their winning sets of photos.
The grand prize of the National Association of Hungarian Journalists (MÚOSZ) went to Zoltán Balogh (of wire service MTI and public TV channel MTVA) for his series dubbed ‘The year of Covid-19 in Hungary.’ Balogh, whose photos are also regularly featured by Hungary Today, previously won the ‘Reportage’ category’s 1st prize too.
The André Kertész Grand Prize was awarded to freelancer Bea Kovács for her series titled ‘Butterfly Girl’ (Pillangólány), depicting the everyday life of a girl suffering from the rare genetic disease epidermolysis bullosa. Her work has been awarded with the Everyday life category’s 2nd Prize.
Unconventionally (due to the pandemic), the exhibition is held outdoors this year, next to Kunsthalle (Műcsarnok) and is open for viewing until August 15th. Afterwards, it will visit Debrecen, Gödöllő, and Békéscsaba too.
