News on Future of Well-liked Hungarian Footballer in Swiss Club

Hungary Today 2023.01.24.

Heiko Vogel, the new sporting director of FC Basel, stated at a press conference that he believes a mutually beneficial agreement with the club’s Hungarian footballer Ádám Szalai is close.

Ádám Szalai, who was captain of the Hungarian national football team, announced his retirement from the national team last year. Shortly afterwards, he started to have problems with his club team FC Basel in Switzerland, as he was not allowed to train with the team and to enter the dressing room.

Last autumn, Szalai was dropped from the Swiss first team squad along with four other players, and was not taken to a recent training camp in Spain.

After the club’s decision at the time, they claimed that Szalai’s “dissatisfaction with the sporting situation” had spread to his teammates and was a “disturbing factor.”

The disagreement between Szalai and the team went as far as a civil court case. However, the Basel City Civil Court ruled that Szalai’s alleged misconduct was of secondary importance, but that a total ban from training was not justified, and the Civil Court ruled in favor of the footballer, allowing Szalai to train with his teammates again.

According to recent news, sporting director Heiko Vogel reportedly had a positive discussion with Ádám Szalai and his advisor in a good atmosphere, after which Vogel is under the impression that a mutually satisfactory agreement will soon be reached.

Swiss portal 44-2 reports that Szalai and four of his teammates will not return to the first team, but it is possible that the Hungarian footballer will work as a coach at Basel until the end of his contract in the summer. Szalai has already enrolled in the combined UEFA B and A license training course run by the Hungarian Football Association. In the autumn, the Hungarian player already began training youngsters in Hungary.
