Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited Berehove (Beregszász, Ukraine, formerly part of Hungary) on Wednesday to discuss security and social issues at a meeting with the leadership of the Regional State Administration of Transcarpathia, reports Karpatalja.ma. The day-long working visit was not made public in advance and was not open to the press.
In Berehove, the President met with representatives of the Hungarian communities and soldiers.
He thanked the soldiers for their service, and also thanked Transcarpathia for taking in refugees from inner Ukraine.
Volodymyr Zelensky stressed that this was the first time that such a meeting had taken place in this format with representatives of the Hungarian community in Ukraine. At the end of the meeting, he presented medals to the soldiers of the 128th Brigade and the 101st Territorial Defense Brigade.

In his Telegram message, the Ukrainian president highlighted that “the border issue is of strategic importance for Transcarpathia,” and that “Transcarpathia will be one of the engines of economic and social growth.” The project for the rehabilitation of Ukrainian soldiers was discussed, as well as the economic development of the region, where participants said there is untapped potential.
In his Twitter post, Zelensky wrote: “We are all citizens of Ukraine, ethnic Hungarians, ethnic Ukrainians, and all our other national communities. We all defend our country, we all help our warriors – all our heroes. I thank our defenders.”
