Zanzibar and Oman Are the New Favorites among Hungarian Tourists

Hungary Today 2023.10.28.

Zanzibar and Oman are becoming increasingly popular destinations for Hungarian tourists, especially in the New Year period. Both countries are mainly visited by adults and couples. Interestingly, the number of people planning a trip of more than a week has increased severalfold.

Autumn travel has been less pre-booked this year than in previous years, while those planning to travel around Christmas and New Year’s Eve have started requesting offers earlier, reports Világgazdaság.

The start of the winter exotic holiday season has been delayed by the long, mild autumn, but now, ahead of the winter clock ticking, end-of-year bookings are now picking up. The question is what to expect in the winter, and where and how Hungarians will travel after the summer shifts in the travel market.

As it turns out,

three times as many people will welcome the New Year in Zanzibar than last year,

and many people have already booked trips to Oman, which is accessible by direct flights from Budapest, as their winter holiday destination this year.

These exotic destinations are typically for adults and couples, while those traveling with children are looking at already known destinations. Egypt, Turkey, and the Canary Islands are perennial favorites, not just over the Christmas and New Year period but all year round, while the volume of holidays booked in the autumn months increased by 27-48% compared to last year.

Regardless of family status and the calendar, and looking at the cold seasons in general – October to April – Egypt, Turkey, and the Canary Islands are competing with Zanzibar and the United Arab Emirates for the top spot. At the end of the season, it will be interesting to see how this year’s new hit, Oman, finally shifts the ranking.

In the autumn-winter period, the majority of travelers spend eight to nine days away, and 76% of trips opt for all-inclusive or ultra all-inclusive for these days.

It is clear that the traveling public is choosing exotic destinations not only for the mild weather, the summer atmosphere, the longer days, and new experiences, but also for the opportunity to really get away from their daily to-do lists.

55% of those who travel at this time of year are in the 40-59 age group: for them, such a trip is also about self-care, whether it is about preparing for the end-of-year drive or relaxing. Most people travel on Fridays and Sundays, the fewest on Mondays.
