World Military Parachuting Championship to Take Place in Szolnok

MTI-Hungary Today 2024.07.02.

The 46th World Military Parachuting Championship will begin on Wednesday in Szolnok (central Hungary), where civil spectators are also welcome, said the Chief of Staff of the 86th Helicopter Brigade of the Hungarian Defense Forces, József Kiss, on the M1 news channel.

The Championship, organized by the International Military Sports Council (CISM) and will be held in Hungary again after 2018. Levente Réz, who is also the competition director of the World Military Championship stressed that only professional soldiers can take part in the competition.

In the individual event, the competitors will perform style jumps from 2,200 meters, during which they will have to perform various figures in a set time as a compulsory task.

In the team competition, they will perform pre-selected formations from a height of 3,200 meters.

The team that can perform the formation skydiving the most times and with the most accuracy, while recording it with a fifth parachute camera, will win the event.

Levente Réz said that there would also be an accuracy landing event, the competitors jumping from an altitude of 1,100 meters. He explained that if the parachutist is off by even one centimeter, he gets a penalty point, and that a system developed for this purpose tells the judges whether the jump was executed within the rules. In this event, the competitors with the lowest number of penalty points finish at the top of the field.

As for the chances, he said that the Hungarian team, that won once at the 2016 World Championship and was competing on home soil for the second time, might be the best in the accuracy landing,

while the Czech, German and Swiss teams could be the main rivals in the style jump and Germany, the Czech Republic and Belgium in the formation skydiving.
