The trio of Veronika Major, Miriam Jákó, and Renáta Sike won the bronze medal in the traditional team competition of the Pistol event at the Olympic qualification European Shooting Championship (Rifle / Pistol) in Osijek, Croatia.
In the team competition, the Hungarians finished third with 1,741 rounds, beating the Bulgarian trio by several inner tens. Germany won the event with 1,756 rounds, while the French were second with 1,746.
One member of the team, Olympic qualifier Veronika Major, had an excellent performance in the main event, qualifying in the top eight with a best of 589 rounds. Thus, she was well prepared for the final of the 25m Pistol event. In the finals she only managed to finish eighth, but this was still the best result among the Hungarian competitors.
“I felt very good in the main event, the conditions were ideal for me, which is quite rare due to the capriciousness of the weather. The light was good, the temperature was good, I felt great in the shooting range, and I did the mental and technical work I had planned. I am very happy with the result, it shows the work I put in. Unfortunately, in the final I had to change my gun due to a gun malfunction, which did not come with a test round, so my shot was not where I intended.
I am very happy with the team bronze medal. After the European air pistol gold medals, I am proud that we won a medal in pistol as well,”
said Major.
