The women’s kayak-four event at the Paris Olympics began with the preliminaries, where the Hungarian team secured a direct spot in the final, scheduled for Thursday.
In this event on Tuesday, finishing in the top three was crucial to skip the semi-final. In the 500m distance, five boats competed across two heats. The Hungarian crew, consisting of Noémi Pupp, Sára Fojt, Tamara Csipes, and Dóra Gazsó, placed second in their heat. The first heat featured the top three finishers from the previous year’s World Championships. The team is completely new with only two-time Olympic champion Csipes having previous experience in major championships.
The Hungarians started slowly, initially falling to fourth place.
They gradually improved their position, overtaking the Australian and Chinese boats to finish second behind the Germans. The top times in the first heat were set by the New Zealand and Spanish teams.
