Wizz Air has suspended more than 270 flights a week to Israel in its October schedule, with 14 flights a week from Hungary affected, the airline revealed.
Wizz Air announced on October 7 that it had suspended its flights between Budapest and Debrecen and Tel Aviv due to the Israeli airstrikes, in coordination with local and international authorities. In the event of cancellation, affected passengers can choose between free rebooking, a 100 percent refund of the ticket purchase price, or a 120 percent credit of the original fare in WIZZ credits. Passengers who have a valid reservation but have not yet been informed of a flight cancellation can proactively request cancellation of their tickets and receive a refund of 100 percent of the original purchase price, either in WIZZ credit or in the original payment method.
Wizz Air has currently cancelled its flights to Israel until November 15, but will keep the situation under constant review.
The airline is in constant contact with the Israeli, Hungarian, and international authorities and is following the events in Israel, they said. They stressed that Wizz Air’s priority remains the safety of its passengers, crew, and aircraft, and will resume flights as soon as it is deemed safe to do so.
Tamás Király, managing director of Debrecen International Airport, said that a significant number of passengers were affected by the suspension of Wizz Air’s Tel Aviv flights. The winter timetable shows that flights from Debrecen departed three times a week with 180 passenger capacity on each flight, and the flights have so far been almost always full.
In November, there will certainly be no flights from Debrecen to Tel Aviv, but the airport and the airline hope that scheduled flights between the two cities can be resumed as early as December,”
said Király.
