Wizz Air President Resigns Amid Major Management Reshuffle

Hungary Today 2024.07.04.

Robert Carey, the president of Hungary based low cost airline Wizz Air, has resigned from the airline, reports Magyar Nemzet based on an article by Bloomberg.

Mr. Carey had been president of the low-cost airline since June 2021, having previously worked at Delta Air Lines Inc., EasyJet Plc., and America West Airlines.

Wizz Air stated that he is leaving to pursue other interests.

For the next three months, József Váradi (who is the co-founder of the company and the CEO of Wizz Air Hungary) will assume the role of chief commercial officer. Following Mr. Carey’s departure, three executives have been promoted to senior positions within the company: Michael Delehant, Chief Operating Officer, will become Chief Commercial and Operations Officer; Diarmuid O’Conghaile, Managing Director of Wizz Air Malta, will take over as Chief Operating Officer of Wizz Air Malta; and Mauro Peneda, Head of Operations Control, will assume Mr. O’Conghaile’s previous role.

These management changes come at a challenging time, as airlines are preparing for the busiest period of the year and are facing significant delays. In recent weeks, both Wizz Air and Ryanair have experienced considerable delays and cancellations.
