Wizz Air will launch a direct flight from Debrecen (eastern Hungary) to Istanbul from April 14, with flights on Wednesday and Sunday, the airline announced on Wednesday.
In a statement sent to MTI, it was pointed out that besides Antalya, Istanbul is the second Turkish city that will soon be directly accessible by air from Debrecen.
Tamás Vincze, Development Director of Debrecen International Airport, stressed in the statement that
the Istanbul flight, like the Rome one, has also achieved excellent results in recent years.
Zsuzsa Trubek, Communications Manager for Wizz Air, confirmed that the airline is committed to the development of the offer between Hungary and Turkey, and therefore they are confident that
the new route will further strengthen the economic and tourism relations between the two countries.
Wizz Air currently operates a fleet of 198 Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft, breaking its previous passenger traffic record in 2023. Last year, it carried more than 60.3 million passengers, an increase of around 32 percent compared to 2022. In Hungary, Wizz Air flew 5.2 million passengers in 2023, including from its bases in Budapest and Debrecen.
