Wizz Air has signed a contract for 75 additional A321neo family aircraft, the airline informed MTI on Thursday.
Wizz Air operates exclusively Airbus aircraft: its fleet currently consists of 185 aircraft from the A320 family. With the latest order,
the airline will have 434 of the largest narrow-body Airbus aircraft, while including the A320 family models, this number brings the total to 484 new aircraft in the fleet.
József Váradi, CEO of Wizz Air, said in a statement:
“With this announcement, Wizz Air further strengthens its position as the largest operator of the A321neo in Europe and the Middle East. More than half of the company’s fleet is already equipped with the latest neo technology.”
The A321neo is the largest aircraft in the Airbus A320 family, offering unrivaled range and performance, according to the announcement.
The new-generation engines and Sharklet wingtips reduce noise by almost 50 percent and fuel consumption and carbon emissions by 20 percent compared to the previous type.
To date, nearly 5,200 A321neo aircraft have been ordered worldwide.
According to a previous statement,
in the first half of its 2023 financial year, which ended last September, Wizz Air’s earnings increased from €164.3 million to €217.8 million, and revenue from €880.4 million to €2.194 billion. Passenger traffic rose from 12.5 million to 26.5 million and the load factor from 75.3 per cent to 86.9 per cent.
