Will Machines Outperform Humans within 45 Years?

Hungary Today 2023.05.12.

Artificial intelligence experts predict that around 2060, machines will be able to perform all tasks better and cheaper than human labor – and by around 2140, all jobs will be fully automated.

In recent years, there has been growing interest not only in the Metaverse but also in artificial intelligence, a technology that is undergoing amazing advances. The question remains when the super-intelligence depicted in movies will become a reality. Artificial intelligence is playing an increasingly important role in our everyday lives, without us even realizing it. Algorithms determine what the next post we see on Facebook will be, what the next music Spotify will play, and what the next video TikTok  plays will be. But beyond the entertainment industry, the use of artificial intelligence is expanding into countless other areas, which is why there is a growing fear among people as such a transformation would have a profound effect on the global labor force. However Zoltán Koós, expert at 4IG, expressed a much more cautious opinion.

We should not necessarily fear such a dystopian future, if only because there is currently a huge divide among researchers. There is still no consensus, for example, on when we might create the first super-intelligence, nor on exactly where we are on this path. Some say that the creation of super-intelligence will happen after 2100, while others believe that this kind of technology will be available by the 2060s. I think that there are two or three major groups that are seriously working on this: Google’s artificial intelligence division, Deepmind, Meta, and OpenAI,”

said Koós to Index.

However, these teams often have very different views on even the fundamental issues of artificial intelligence, on what AI really is, whether we are on the right track in developing it, and when we will get there.

Chief scientist of META, Yann LeCun, recently said that humanity is not where we need to be in terms of development, and the algorithms being currently under development are not sufficient, but necessary to get to the top of such complex technology.

According to the Hungarian expert, we should not necessarily fear that artificial intelligence will take our jobs away, but the processes that have happened in the past will continue to happen in the future.

However, artificial intelligence is also good because it does not take jobs at the moment but it actually creates them thus helping people. It can take over repetitive tasks from humans, and robots need to be managed, maintained, oiled, and developed, and only humans can do that.

So we should not fear that artificial intelligence will make human work meaningless in the short term, but we should also bear in mind that throughout history, whenever major technological breakthroughs have been made in industry, it has always meant that a part of humanity loses jobs, and this will (most likely) continue to be the case in the future.
