Who the Turkish People in Hungary Voted for

Parliamentary elections and the first round of presidential elections were held in Turkey on Sunday. Magyar Nemzet daily newspaper wrote about how Turkish citizens living in Hungary voted.

In the Turkish parliamentary and first round of the presidential elections on Sunday, according to the Electoral Council, incumbent President Recep Tayyip Erdogan won 49.49 percent of the vote, while his rival Kemal Kilicdaroglu won 44.79 percent.

According to statistics from the Anadolu news agency, a total of around 1.1 million valid votes were cast abroad, of which 600,000 (54.66 percent) went to President Erdogan. His challenger won 42 percent, nearly 462,000 votes.

In Hungary, Kemal Kilicdaroglu proved to be the more popular candidate, winning 565 out of 849 valid votes (66.5 percent).

In contrast, Erdogan received about a quarter of the votes.

Of the approximately 3,000 Turkish citizens living in Hungary, more than a thousand are students.
