Voters Reject Opposition Politicians Trying to Bankrupt Hungary with EU Help

Nearly two thirds of Hungarian voters consider it wrong for a Hungarian politician to support the suspension of EU funding for Hungary for party political reasons, according to the latest opinion poll by the Nézőpont Institute.

Last week, Kinga Kollár, MEP of the Tisza Party, said that withholding EU funds to Hungary has led to a deterioration in the living standards of Hungarians, which will strengthen the opposition’s chances in the 2026 elections. The incident sparked outrage and protests, with Péter Magyar and his party defending the MEP and her statements.

Nézőpont Institute has conducted a poll to find out how voters view a Hungarian politician’s support for the suspension of EU funds to Hungary for party political reasons.

The clear result of the survey is that almost two thirds (64%) of the total adult population oppose such an approach. As worrying as it is though, almost a quarter of our citizens (24%) think withholding EU funds to harm the Orbán government it is the right thing to do. All this adds up to nearly 5 million voters would clearly reject the idea of Hungarian MEPs supporting the withholding of Hungarian EU funds in pursuit of their party political goals.
