Volodymyr Zelenskyy Visits Hungarian-Ukrainian School in Budapest

MTI-Hungary Today 2024.11.08.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who arrived in Budapest for the European Political Community Summit in Budapest, visited on Thursday the Hungarian-Ukrainian bilingual primary and secondary school with Levente Magyar, Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

“Despite the war and life far from home, our Ukrainian children maintain their ties to Ukraine, continuing to study and grow.

This is made possible thanks to institutions like the Ukrainian-Hungarian school in Budapest.

Today, I met with its students—young Ukrainians who remember their homeland, study its language and culture, and, I believe, will certainly return home after the victory,” Mr. Zelenskyy wrote in a Facebook post.

After the visit, Levente Magyar told MTI that the Ukrainian President was warmly welcomed by the students.

The State Secretary recalled that

the school opened in September, after Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Volodymyr Zelenskyy agreed in the summer that Hungary would provide mother-tongue education for Ukrainian children in the country.

According to Levente Magyar, thousands of Ukrainian children in the country are constantly seeking contact with their culture and mother tongue, which the Budapest institution provides in Hungary. He added that

Hungary is ready to open more such institutions if there is a demand for them.
