The Hungarian branches of Vodafone and Bosch have set up a joint project team for 5G-based automotive testing in Budapest, Vodafone announced in a press release on Wednesday.
The project, starting in October, will test the 5G network in the field of driver assistance systems and vehicle development. The 5G network will be provided by Vodafone for the project. The experiment at the company’s innovation center will run for eight months and will test the possibilities in a variety of road surfaces and situations.
According to the announcement,
5G, the most advanced telecommunications network available today, could open up new horizons in the automotive industry, capable of supporting the rapid exchange of information between vehicles and self-driving cars.
5G was first introduced as a commercial network in Hungary by Vodafone and has already been used in a number of automotive test projects. The company is confident that the results of the collaboration with Bosch in Hungary could reform the way automotive validation tests are conducted, they added.
The Bosch Automotive Technology Development Center was inaugurated a year ago after almost four years of construction. The German company’s HUF 70 billion (EUR 181 million) investment will strengthen Hungary’s role in international innovation and industrial cooperation, as well as in global automotive development. The 90,000 square meter, world-class facility in Budapest will play a key role in the development of Bosch’s electromobility and automated driving solutions, the company concluded.
