Visegrád 4 Countries and Artists Take Center Stage at Cered All-round Art Festival

Hungary Today 2024.08.06.

The 29th Cered Contemporary International Art Colony and Circle Exhibition will close with ArtPiknik Cered, a festival of all the arts that will stimulate all the senses, on August 10. Exhibitions, guided tours, music and theater performances, a jazz concert, an exhibition of ethnographic collections, an exhibition of this year’s artworks and an art sale will enrich the program.

One would not believe the treasures and values of Cered, a small village in Nógrád County, northern Hungary. Almost 30 years ago, ArtColony Cered grew out of an individual initiative and has become a major player in the artistic scene, while preserving the values and spirit of the place.

Each year, the Cered Contemporary International Art Colony and Circle Exhibition has a different theme.

This year the focus is on the Visegrád 4 (V4: Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland, and Slovakia) countries and their artists.

They came to Cered for a few weeks to draw inspiration from the traditions of the village, the beauty of the nature surrounding the village, the customs and the everyday life of the local people. Their works will be presented to the public at the ArtPiknik Cered, an all-round art festival.

ArtPiknik Cered will include visual art exhibitions, as well as performances and programs that will stimulate all the senses.

Visitors will be transported into a world where local women prepare freshly baked traditional dishes while the country’s finest jazz musicians play. During the day, adults and children alike can enjoy a craft fair and performances by street musicians and dancers. There will also be a contemporary art fair, an evening of open-air theater, folk songs by the Cered Women’s Choir and a variety of visual arts.

Furthermore since last year, the ArtComplex, covering almost 400 square meters, has also been open to visitors, with a contemporary gallery, a graphics workshop and a museum, which takes those interested back in time.
