Viktor Orbán: “We owe it to our parents that we are here”

Hungary Today 2025.02.07.

On Friday morning the Prime Minister began the day on Kossuth Radio, where he spoke about the main current political issues. Viktor Orbán talked about pensioners, Hungarian-American relations and the work of NGOs, Index reports.

“There are two groups towards which a civil-national government has a Pavlovian reflex; one is children and the other group is pensioners,” the Prime Minister emphasized in response to a question about helping pensioners. He said that the elderly are not old people, but parents, and the government is motivated by respect and recognition. On parents, he added that “we owe it to them that we are here, that they work for us and because of us.”

Mr Orbán also spoke on the radio about the fact that pensioners living in settlements with less than 5,000 inhabitants can now also benefit from the home renovation program, through which they can modernize their houses. He added that this year is expected to be a strong one, and the government wants to open up opportunities that have not yet been available. He also recalled that in Hungary there are 420,000 pensioner households in 2,900 municipalities.

The Prime Minister recalled that he did not understand why the 13th month pension had become a political issue with the Hungarian opposition, adding that it was the scene of a constant battle both at home and abroad.

On the newly introduced workers’ loan, the Prime Minister highlighted that some 10,000 people had so far taken this opportunity. He welcomed this figure, saying that skilled workers are needed alongside educated people. “They need support too, but so far there has been no money. There is also a kind of uncertainty linked to the age of young people, but the workers’ loan is still a success,” Mr Orbán underlined.

On Hungarian-American relations, he said that the democrats have only ruined them, which needs to be remedied and given a perspective. He said that a big action plan is already being prepared, which could bring US investment to Hungary.

Regarding the work of NGOs, Viktor Orbán said that he considers the activities of these organizations in Hungary dangerous. He said that

the people involved are “agents who have received money from other powers in order to influence a third party and overthrow the national government.”

In this section, the role of the Brussels-based newspaper Politico, which has reportedly received financial support from several places, such as the United States, in order to attack Hungary, was also discussed.

The Prime Minister then moved on to the so called George Soros plan, which he said was aimed at bringing a million migrants a year to Europe, something that has in fact been already achieved. He also pointed out that large sums of money had been channeled to certain countries by these networks, including Serbia and Slovakia. On this point, he said that “the Soros network must be swept out of Europe.”

“Those who threaten sovereignty will face legal consequences”, emphasized the Prime Minister, adding that those networks working towards this must be eliminated. “There must be a revolt against European migrant policy. You cannot occupy Brussels with fine words and arguments,” Mr Orbán concluded.
