Prime Minister Viktor Orbán traveled to Georgia yesterday to attend the first joint Hungarian-Georgian government meeting, where the main topics will be the development of economic relations and energy security. Orbán will also hold bilateral talks with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.
The decision to hold a joint meeting of the Hungarian and Georgian governments was made during the Georgian Prime Minister’s official visit to Hungary last October, when the two prime ministers signed the Strategic Partnership Agreement.
This time, five bilateral agreements are expected to be signed during the joint government meeting.
In addition to the development of economic and trade relations, the “Green Energy Corridor – Black Sea Submarine Cable” project will be a key topic of the talks, the essence of which is that the cooperation between Hungary, Romania, Georgia, and Azerbaijan will enable the supply of green energy from Azerbaijan to Hungary in the future.
The Hungarian head of government was received with military honors at the airport of Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. This marked the beginning of his three-day official visit to the Caucasus country. On Tuesday afternoon, Orbán and his wife Anikó Lévai visited the Orthodox monastery of Shawnabada, a symbol of Georgian independence and a landmark of the country’s Christian culture.
After the service, they attended an informal dinner accompanied by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili and his wife.
