Viktor Orbán described Hungary’s Presidency of the European Union as a great success. In a press statement at the summit between the EU and Western Balkan countries, the PM emphasized the positive outcomes of the past six months.

Mr. Orbán noted that all Western Balkan countries made progress, with some advancing significantly. “There is no country that has not benefited from our work, and if we include the Schengen area, this semester has been a great success,” he said. The politician added that it was a job well done, stating,

now we just need to put our stamp on it and say it was a good time.”

Regarding Hungary’s economy, he compared the current state to 2010, highlighting the country’s transformation into a modern nation. “People always compare the situation before 2010 with today, and it’s clear that this is a very different, much more modern country,” he said, expressing pride in Hungary’s progress. When asked about the economy’s condition, he likened it to a bicycle that “always needs to be pedaled.”

On the Ukrainian gas pipeline, Viktor Orbán confirmed that the Hungarian government is actively working on it, underscoring Hungary’s commitment to energy security.

In a related development, Bulgaria and Romania will join the Schengen Area from January 1, 2025, a significant milestone. Hungary’s EU Presidency played a crucial role in securing this, which will ease travel and trade while benefiting Hungary, especially with Transylvanian Hungarians. Viktor Orbán praised this achievement, noting its importance for Hungarian unity and economic growth.
