Viktor Orbán Calls for Peace in Ukraine and Slams Brussels at French Nationalist Event

MTI-Hungary Today 2025.06.10.

“We do not want to die for Ukraine, we need a ceasefire, peace, and negotiations, diplomats must take back control from the generals,” said Viktor Orbán at the “Patriots for Europe” event in France, where the Prime Minister sharply criticized EU policy on the Ukraine war, called for immediate peace negotiations, and defended Hungary’s stance on migration, sovereignty, and traditional values.

He denounced “warmongering politicians,” warning: “This war cannot be won. There is no solution on the battlefield, only death, suffering, and destruction.” Prime Minister Orbán pointed out that Hungary borders Ukraine:

We do not want our sons to come back in coffins… We do not want Brussels to introduce a war economy… I ask you, let us stop them.”

In his speech, he also referenced Pentecost as a Christian miracle: “A miracle happened: sons of distant nations suddenly understood each other and spoke one language.”

Drawing a parallel, he said that one year ago, many European nations began speaking the same “language of sovereignty and freedom,” including France, Italy, Spain, and Hungary, referencing the 2024 European Parliament elections that was held from June 6 to 9.

If we stand together, we will be strong and we will prevail.”

PM Orbán declared Hungary the “black sheep of the European Union, the nightmare of Brussels, the hope of European patriots, and the last bastion of Christians.”

Reflecting on his life under communism, he stated: “Freedom and democracy had to be fought for. The egghead Brussels bureaucrats… have no idea what it means to fight for freedom, democracy, and the homeland.” He also praised Marine Le Pen, leader of the National Rally, calling her: “A friend, a great person, a tireless leader, and a courageous fighter who never betrays.”

Mr. Orbán warned that the globalist Western world was on a destructive path, dominated by progressive institutions and international NGOs.  “Universities and culture were taken over by internationalist progressives… NGOs and media networks paid from Brussels and Washington ruled over us.”

He also repeated his criticism of migration: “Migrants had also invaded, paid for by George Soros and Brussels.”

Hungary’s response, he said, was to reform: “We rebelled… adopted a new constitution that includes the inviolability of sovereignty, Christian cultural identity, the protection of children, and the definition of a father as a man and a mother as a woman.”

We built a fence and pushed out the migrants… The number of migrants in Hungary is zero. There are no street gangs, no anti-Semitism, no violence and no riots here.”

PM Orbán also pointed to economic policies such as tax relief for working mothers and concluded: “Hungary belongs to the Hungarians… and we are proud of our country again.”

Fact

Hungary is known to have the biggest tax reduction program in Europe, earlier it was decided to introduce a lifetime income tax exemption for mothers of two or more children.

On EU financial pressure, he said: “Hungary is under financial sanctions and must pay Brussels one million euros a day… but we would rather pay than let a single one in. This is the best investment in the future.”

Fact

As Hungary Today reported earlier, the European Court of Justice imposed a fine. As a result, Hungary was ordered to pay EUR 200 million and EUR 1 million per day for failing to comply with the Reception Conditions Directive and the Return Directive. On September 18, the European Commission announced that Hungary had failed to pay the EUR 200 million fine by the deadline, resulting in deductions from EU payments owed to the country.

He vowed not to compromise Hungary’s security or sovereignty: “This is not migration, but an organized population replacement… We Hungarians will not kneel before Brussels. We will fight for our families and our homeland, even if we have to fight the entire Brussels bureaucracy. We are leaving behind a European, Christian, and patriotic country for our children and grandchildren. This is our story.”

He concluded by calling for unity among Europe’s right:

We have joined forces and are advancing everywhere. We Hungarians need your victories.”

“You are the nation of glory,” he told the French, referring again to French leader Marine Le Pen.

At the summit, the leaders of the Patriots for Europe political alliance adopted a joint declaration calling for a strong, sovereign, and secure Europe. They urged EU institutions to respect democracy, individual freedoms, and the sovereignty of Member States, emphasizing the right of citizens to choose their leaders through free elections. The declaration rejected the political misuse of judicial systems—especially when used to target opposition figures or punish countries defending their borders—and opposed the escalation of the war in Ukraine or the deployment of troops.
