Over a decade ago, the government embarked on a groundbreaking cultural development project in Városliget, aiming to preserve its historical significance as a center for recreation, sports, and culture. The focus was on accessibility, ensuring that not only local residents but also visitors from far and wide could partake in various sports activities.

The initial stage of development saw the creation of youth sports facilities, including a 200-meter running track, a long jump pit, and an outdoor gym park, all of which were inaugurated in 2018.

Subsequently, extensive public consultations informed the second stage, which involved the complete landscaping of the park. This phase culminated in the opening of the City Park Sports Center in 2020, offering a wide array of facilities for sports enthusiasts.

What is more, all sports activities are provided free of charge, having already attracted over 100,000 participants by 2020. Additionally, visitors have availed themselves of various discounts, including parking in the museum’s underground car park and access to changing rooms and toilets. With nearly one million individuals engaging in sports activities in the park, it stands as a testament to the success of the ongoing revitalization efforts.
