U.S. President Donald Trump is considering a “baby bonus” for new mothers, Fox News reported. The idea is part of several proposals aimed at stopping declining birth rates in the United States. Hungary already has several similar family support policies in place, such as the baby expecting loan or the newly introduced personal income tax exemption for mothers of at least two children.
The bonus would amount to 5,000 dollars and would be given to every American mother after giving birth. U.S. President Donald Trump described it as “a good idea to me” when he was asked about it on Tuesday. The “baby bonus” could also be used as a newborn supplement to existing child tax credits. However, there is no final decision on the matter yet, and it would also need to be approved by Congress, Forbes reported.

Reacting to the news, Balázs Orbán, the Prime Minister’s political director, said on his social media page that the aim is to stop or at least slow down the dramatic decline in the birth rate. He added that
Viktor Orbán was one of the first to recognize the importance of family policy and that influential figures around the world, such as recently deceased Pope Francis and U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, have spoken out in favor of the demographic turnaround.
He pointed out that an increasing number of people are realizing that the solution to the problem of falling birth rates is not illegal migration. What is needed is to strengthen our own communities, support childbearing, and create a social environment where the family is not a burden but a value on which society is built.
Balázs Orbán recalled that Hungary has been at the forefront of this issue for years and has been a frequently cited example for Western societies seeking a family-friendly turnaround, as it has been a consistent, family-friendly government for a decade and a half. Housing subsidies, such as the CSOK Plus, or subsidies to support income and long-term financial security, such as the baby expecting loan, personal income tax exemption for mothers under 30 and mothers of two or more children, the expansion of crèche and kindergartens and many other measures all serve the goal of making having children an opportunity for families, not a financial risk.
As a result, Hungary has made significant improvements since 2010, with 200,000 more children born thanks to well thought-out measures.
Western countries that have not yet recognized the importance of family support continue to have significantly worse figures. It is good to see that America has also started to turn family friendly, because the future cannot be taken for granted – it only becomes secure if there are people to carry it forward,” the Hungarian politician emphasized.
