Unique Photo Exhibition to Open in Pécs Featuring Nearly 200 Artists

The Association of Hungarian Photographers will organize an inter-generational group exhibition with the participation of almost 200 artists between March 23 and April 28 in Pécs (southwestern Hungary),  the Zsolnay Heritage Management Non-profit Ltd., the organizer of cultural programs in Pécs, announced.

The company said that the exhibition will be on display in the two main exhibition venues of the city, the Pécs Gallery and the Martyn Ferenc Gallery in the House of Arts and Literature. In the latter venue, the members of the Studio of Young Photographers (FFS) will present their light installations and light art works, while in the Pécs Gallery, the members of the Association of Hungarian Photographers (MFSZ) will show their latest works.

In the press release, they pointed out that the most important Hungarian photographic association, the Association of Hungarian Photographers, with almost 300 members, has been involved in the promotion of Hungarian photography and research since its foundation, and promotes the development of Hungarian photographic culture through its competitions.

During its six-decade history, the association has had as its members such influential figures in Hungarian photography as Angelo, Nándor Bárány, Cornell Capa, Károly Escher, Kata Kálmán, Gábor Kerekes, György Lőrinczy, Lucien Hervé, József Pécsi, Dénes Rónai, and Ernő Vadas. In 1977, the association founded and still runs the Studio of Young Photographers, the most important professional organization of young Hungarian photographers.

Pécs hosted its first photo exhibition in 1995, and by 2011, the Pécs Gallery had presented nine exhibitions of the most influential artists in Hungarian photography.
