On Thursday, the Mini Hungary Model Park in Szarvas (southeastern Hungary) welcomed its millionth visitor.

The one millionth visitor was a couple from Budapest, who came to the park with their two daughters and their dog.

The Mini Hungary Model Park, located next to the Szarvas Arboretum, opened on April 10, 2013 as one of the largest private tourism projects in the history of Szarvas. In ten years, the initial 22 models have expanded considerably: now there are more than 100 buildings and train models on display.

The more than two-hectare park – the largest and only interactive model park in Hungary – presents the history, traditions, and architectural sights of the country.

Since 2015, visitors can see the sights of Transylvania (formerly in Hungary, now in Romania); since 2016, the historical secrets and architectural curiosities of Slovakia; since 2017, of Transcarpathia (former part of Hungary, now Ukraine); and from 2019, of Burgenland (Őrvidék, formerly part of Hungary, now Austria).

It is also home to the country’s longest outdoor network of model railways, more than 600 meters long, with miniature locomotives that visitors can launch through tunnels, bridges, and viaducts. The miniature Danube and Lake Balaton are dotted with the famous sail boats and ships.

In the park, visitors are able to hear not only the echoes of Tihany, but also the Muezzin’s song from the Pécs mosque, the famous aria of György Melis from the Opera House (born in Szarvas), and the recruiting song from Zoltán Kodály’s opera Háry János.
