Ukrainian War: Cyber Security Centre Issues Warning over Donation Scams

MTI-Hungary Today 2022.03.03.

The Hungarian cyber security center NKI has issued a warning of an increasing number of scams involving donations for Ukraine.

Charity drives have so far raised over 37 million US dollars in cryptocurrency donations for Ukraine, prompting cybercriminals to leap into action, the NKI said in a statement on Wednesday.

Security website BleepingComputer has come across a number of scam emails, phishing sites and forums posts looking to take advantage of unsuspecting users to con them out of their money, the NKI said. The “Help Ukraine” donation scam tries to entice users to aid Ukraine by donating to counterfeit Bitcoin and Ethereum addresses that are not affiliated with the Ukrainian government, it said.

The website MalwareHunterTeam has also uncovered some .org domains looking to scam users, the statement said. It has also warned users of the fraudulent fundraising site UkraineGlobalAid[.]com.
