Hungary is temporarily moving its embassy from Kyiv to Lviv in western Ukraine, in response to the deteriorating security situation in the Ukrainian capital, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said on Thursday.
Szijjártó told a meeting of Hungarian ambassadors that Hungary had recently evacuated the embassy’s employees, their families, along with three Austrians and a French national from Kyiv, the foreign ministry said in a statement.
All twenty people are safe and in constant contact with the ministry, Szijjártó said.
The embassy will run with a reduced staff in Lviv, he added. “We will represent every Hungarian who find themselves in trouble in Ukraine,” he said. The embassy staff will return to Kyiv as soon as it is safe to do so, he said.
