Jimmy Carter’s presidency left a significant mark on Hungary, where he is remembered for returning the Holy Crown of Hungary in 1978. The Crown, a symbol of a thousand years of Hungarian statehood and Christian tradition, had been in U.S. custody since the end of World War II to prevent its seizure by Soviet forces.
