Amazon Web Services (AWS) has opened its first office in Budapest, as part of the company’s ongoing expansion in Central and Eastern Europe to serve a growing number of regional customers and partners, the company told MTI on Monday.
The new Hungarian headquarters will enable staff to provide even more support for migrating to AWS cloud services for organizations of all sizes in Hungary, including startups, enterprises, and public sector organizations.
The current expansion follows the establishment of AWS’s Budapest server base in January 2020. Customers in Hungary use AWS systems to run everything from mobile, web and social applications, to development and test environments for artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), Big Data analytics, and the Internet of Things (IoT), as well as enterprise business applications and mission-critical computing.
For years, AWS has supported the Hungarian startup and technology community, as well as students and teachers, through programs such as AWS Academy and AWS Activate.
In addition to these, Amazon Web Services is now introducing its new AWS Skill Builder program in Hungary. AWS Skill Builder is AWS Training and Certification’s digital learning hub with more than 600 free courses.
Amazon.com Inc. is the world’s leading online retailer, and AWS is the cloud services industry. Amazon’s first-quarter revenue this year rose 9 percent to $127.4 billion from $116.4 billion a year earlier. Its after-tax profit was $3.17 billion at 31 cents per share, compared with a loss of $3.84 billion at 38 cents per share a year earlier. In the first quarter, revenue rose the most in the advertising segment, up 21 percent to $9.5 billion, and 16 percent to $21.4 billion in the cloud services sector.
