John Malkovich will perform his ensemble production with pianist Anastasya Terenkova on November 17 and 18 at the House of Music Hungary.
John Malkovich visited the House of Music Hungary for the first time this summer, when he was on holiday in Budapest, according to a statement sent to MTI on Thursday.
The actor toured the House’s halls, concert halls, spent time in the Divas & Icons temporary exhibition and decided to present one of his latest works here.
The world star, known from the screen and television, has always felt close to the world of theater and the stage,” the press release noted.
The actor will be seen from the 320-seat auditorium of the House of Music Hungary on three occasions, on November 17 (at 6 p.m. and 8.30 p.m.) and November 18 (8.30 p.m.), in a performance brought to life by him and the trio by world-famous pianist Anastasya Terenkova.
Debuting in 2022, The Infamous Ramirez Hoffman is an interweaving of music, literature and theater on stage, written for piano, violin, bandoneon and a text by one of the giants of contemporary literature, Chilean author Roberto Bolaño, in a captivating performance by John Malkovich.
Roberto Bolaño has become an acclaimed and popular writer worldwide with his novels 2666 and The Savage Detectives. The performance at the House of Music Hungary is the final chapter of Bolano’s 1996 book La literatura nazi en América (Nazi Literature in the Americas). The book is an encyclopaedia of fictional poets and writers, all of whom share extreme right-wing views.
According to the press release, the actor and the chamber trio, who perform a varied repertoire, engage in a dialogue between text and music. A book excerpt tells the story of a Nazi poet, fighter pilot and cold-blooded murderer, while Terenkova’s chamber trio plays pieces by Astor Piazzolla, Antonio Vivaldi, Max Richter, Erik Satie and others. Malkovich’s voice is the fourth “instrument”. The performance is shown live with Hungarian subtitles.
Tickets for The Infamous Ramirez Hoffman are on sale from September 11 at 10 a.m. on the website of the House of Music Hungary. A short talk with the world-famous actor will be organized after the evening performances.
