Two Millionth Mercedes Rolls off the Production Line in Kecskemét

MTI-Hungary Today 2024.10.25.

The Mercedes-Benz factory in Kecskemét (central Hungary) has reached a milestone, as the two millionth car was completed in October: a blue, five-seater EQB with a pure electric drive, the German car manufacturer announced.

“Two million satisfied customers drive a Mercedes-Benz built in Kecskemét. This achievement is primarily the success of our employees, who build the world’s most attractive vehicles with expertise and passion every day at our Hungarian site. The quality of their work and the efficiency of the plant are exemplary throughout the entire production network of Mercedes-Benz Operations,” Magyar Nemzet quoted Jörg Burzer, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG.

The factory currently produces Mercedes-Benz A-Class models, the CLA Coupé and Shooting Brake models, as well as Mercedes-Benz EQBs. Last year, more than 174,000 vehicles rolled off the Kecskemét production lines.

Production of Mercedes-Benz compact models started in Kecskemét in 2012, in a joint production network with the vehicle plant in Rastatt in southern Germany. Production started with the B-Class models, followed a year later by the four-door CLA Coupé – the first Mercedes-Benz model to be built exclusively in Kecskemét and delivered from there to customers around the world.

Three years ago, in 2021, the production of the first series-produced electric vehicle in Hungary began with the all-electric EQB.

In preparation for the production of the new MMA (Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture) and MB.EA (Mercedes-Benz Electric Architecture) models, the site is currently undergoing a major expansion.

As part of the ongoing EUR 1 billion-plus factory expansion, a new chassis manufacturing and assembly plant is being built, as well as a new battery assembly plant.

“With the current factory expansion, we are ensuring that we can continue to be a reliable partner for our customers, wherever they are in the world. The fact that we are celebrating the two millionth ‘Made in Kecskemét’ Mercedes-Benz model confirms that demand for our attractive compact cars will continue to be strong. Our thanks go to the entire team in Kecskemét who have contributed to this important milestone in the history of the Group,” said Jens Bühler, managing director of Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary Kft.
