Twin Sisters on the Podium at the British Taekwondo International Open

Gold medalist Viviana Márton at the 2024 Paris Olympics

Olympic champion Viviana Márton won gold, while her world champion twin sister Luana won bronze at the British Taekwondo International Open.

On Sunday, Viviana Márton triumphed in the 62 kg category at the G1 event in Manchester, while Luana finished third in the 73 kg weight category, the Hungarian Taekwondo Federation reported on its website.

First seed Viviana Márton (62 kg) defeated Beth Christy (2-0) in the quarter-finals, while in the semi-finals she beat Neve McPhillie (2-0). In the final, she faced Klaudija Tvaronaviviute (2-0) to take the top step on the podium.

Luana Márton (73 kg) beat Germany’s Emily Hoermann in the quarter-finals (2-0), while in the match for the final, the eventual winner, Helena Garcia Suarez, could only win in three rounds against the Hungarian (1-2), who finished third.

Earlier this March, 18-year-old Viviana Márton was voted the best young athlete among the representatives of summer sports by the European Olympic Committees,

as reported by the Hungarian Olympic Committee.

After winning the gold medal in the women’s 67kg weight category at the Olympic Games in Paris, the Taekwondo Olympic champion was also awarded the Piotr Nurowski Prize at the 54th Congress of the European Olympic Committee (EOC).
