Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó announced on his social media page last week that Hungarian oil and gas company MOL’s partner in Türkiye is working on the exploration of new gas fields in Hungary. “There is no Hungarian energy security without Türkiye,” the minister stressed.
Mr. Szijjártó pointed out that unlike some of our neighbors, Türkiye is a very reliable partner for Hungary, and through it record volumes of natural gas are coming to us. “We have now agreed to establish new joint energy investments between our companies. MOL’s partner in Türkiye, TPAO, is investing more than $15 million in Hungary to explore and produce new fields,” he announced.
The Foreign Minister underlined that the two countries reject attacks on their energy security and expect Ukraine to stop attacks on energy infrastructure in the region.
MOL and its Turkish partner signed a strategic agreement in December and the two companies are already cooperating in Russia, but are also preparing joint projects in Türkiye,

Moreover, the Hungarian oil company announced just last week that it had discovered oil in the western part of the country, in Somogysámson, at a depth of 1,250 meters. Based on tests, the well in the Somogysámson oil field is capable of producing 1,200 barrels per day.
