“The recently announced U.S. tariff hike against the European Union also proves the incompetence of the Brussels leadership, which is why it is time for a patriotic turnaround,” Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, wrote on Facebook on Saturday.
Donald Trump announced on Saturday that he will impose a 30 percent tariff on goods from the European Union starting August 1. The Minister reported that the measure imposed by the United States is further proof of the total incompetence of Ursula von der Leyen and the European Commission.
“This incompetence has already caused a great deal of damage and trouble for Europe in recent years, and now here comes another failure: Ursula von der Leyen and the Brussels Commission have been unable to negotiate a favorable tariff agreement with the US government, and once again it is the European economy, European companies and the European people who will pay the price,” he emphasized.
Another proof of @vonderleyen & @EU_Commission’s incompetence. They failed to secure a favorable tariff deal w/ the US & once again, Europeans are paying the price. We said it: EU tariffs on the US should’ve been lowered after Trump took office. We need patriots, not bureaucrats!

“We warned them in good time and told them what needed to be done: EU tariffs on US imports should have been reduced immediately after Donald Trump took office. Ursula von der Leyen and the Brussels Commission failed to do so, and once again it is we Europeans who are paying the price,” he continued.
It is time for change in Brussels: let the patriots finally replace the von der Leyens!”
Péter Szijjártó concluded.
Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, responded fairly quickly to the announcement made by Donald Trump. In her response, she explained that “30% tariffs on EU exports would disrupt essential transatlantic supply chains,” which would hurt businesses and consumers on both sides of the Atlantic.
A 30% tariff on EU exports would hurt businesses, consumers and patients on both sides of the Atlantic.
We will continue working towards an agreement by August 1.
At the same time, we are ready to safeguard EU interests on the basis of proportionate countermeasures.
