Wolfgang Schäuble, CDU politician, former German Interior and Finance Minister and President of the Bundestag, has passed away.
His death was also commemorated on social media by Head of State Katalin Novák and Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.

In his eulogy, Minister of the Prime Minister’s Office Gergely Gulyás said:
“With the death of Wolfgang Schäuble, Germany has lost one of the greatest statesmen of the post-World War II era, one of Europe’s most credible advocates of institutionalized European cooperation based on dialogue and respect, a true friend of Hungary, and one of the few people in German public life today who understands the historical roots and significance of Hungarian-German relations. He was one of the last credible representatives of German conservatism in Germany.”
Jacques Delors, the father of the modern European Union, died on Wednesday at the age of 98, reports AFP , citing the politician’s daughter. He was President of the European Commission for three terms and played an important role in the introduction of the single currency in the EU.
