Trains Passing through Hungary May Be Affected by the Strike in Germany

Hungary Today 2024.01.23.

In Germany, railway workers are on strike from January 24, Wednesday morning to 6 p.m. on January 29, Monday, informed the German railway company Deutsche Bahn (DB). Due to the strike, long-distance and regional rail traffic in Germany is expected to be disrupted and travel times are expected to be longer. Passengers also traveling from Hungary to Germany are advised to check the DB and Hungarian railway company MÁV’s websites or customer services.

Timetable restrictions due to the strike are still under discussion.

As soon as the train service during the strike is in place, MÁVINFORM will provide information on the international services between Germany and Hungary affected.

Tickets and seat reservations already purchased by January 24 for travel to, from, or via Germany on the evening of January 23 and between January 24 and 29, can be returned free of charge and used before the dates indicated on the ticket on January 22 and 23, or until February 5.

If you buy a new ticket, the railway company can only provide you with offers that are still available. If only a more expensive ticket can be issued, passengers can apply to customer service for a fair refund of the difference between the two tickets. Tickets purchased online can be refunded via the mobile application and by e-mail at eszrevetel@mav-start.hu. Validation of tickets for another date can be arranged at international ticket offices before the start of the journey.

Passengers can also check the DB website, or the ÖBB (Austrian Federal Railways) website for further information.
