The Adria InterCity connecting Budapest with Split on the Croatian coast is running again this year from June 9. Named one of Europe’s top 10 rail journeys by The Guardian last year, the international service has been available since early April, with almost 9,000 people taking a seat in a sleeper car or compartment.
Due to the increased demand, from June 16, the most popular international overnight train runs with six coaches, with the addition of another sleeper car coach – reported the MÁV Zrt. Communications Directorate on their website.
The current booking figures are an outstanding result, as in the last tourist season a total of 11,900 people chose the direct rail journey between Budapest and Split.
This year, with the extended operating period, the Adria InterCity is so popular that
more than 80 percent of the seats in the highest quality sleeper cars have already been booked,
hence those who wish to travel in the 1-3 sleeper compartment cars, more ideal for couples and smaller families and also offering a higher level of service, should hurry to buy their tickets. Occupancy rates for the quiet, air-conditioned sleeper coaches, equipped with power sockets, are approaching the 50-60% sales rate. The proportion of seats sold is particularly high on holiday services.
In order to meet the demand for travel, MÁV-START added an extra sleeping car coach to the Adria InterCity trains as of June 16, instead of the planned end of June date, thus increasing the capacity of each service by up to 50 passengers.
The Adria InterCity, which runs three times a week in each direction until September 30, is ideal for those planning a holiday in Croatia, as it takes one to the center of Split, right next to the old town and the harbor, and most of the journey can be spent sleeping, thus one can arrive relaxed and enjoy the journey as part of his or her holiday experience. A wide range of food and drink is available on board the train throughout the journey.
MÁV-START has prepared a detailed presentation for those interested, which is available on the MÁV website here.
