Mr. Peskov praised the Hungarian Prime Minister’s peace efforts, stating,

we appreciate, and President Putin also appreciated, these efforts of Mr. Orbán. Obviously, there are significant disagreements between the parties involved, but Mr. Orbán is making a very serious attempt to understand the essence of these disagreements, which we acknowledge.”

On July 5, Viktor Orbán held talks with Vladimir Putin regarding the settlement in Ukraine, relations between Russia and the European Union, ties between Budapest and Moscow, and possible principles for a future European security system.

Earlier, on July 2, the Hungarian PM met with Ukrainian Head of State Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kiev, raising the possibility of a time-bound ceasefire to pave the way for peace talks. On Monday, he met Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing to discuss a resolution in Ukraine.
