Unconfirmed reports suggest that the third victim of yesterday’s helicopter crash in Croatia may have been found buried under the helicopter, according to M1 Channel’s correspondent on the scene. The Hungarian military helicopter crashed yesterday in while on exercises.
The aircraft was taking part in an aerial training exercise near the town of Zadar, there were three people on board. Rescue teams had earlier recovered the wreckage of the plane and the bodies of two soldiers, but the search is ongoing. According to press reports, the helicopter may have become entangled in a steel cable stretched between two mountain peaks.
On behalf of the Government and the Ministry, the Minister of Defense expressed his condolences to the relatives of the victims of the helicopter crash in Croatia at a press conference in Budapest on Wednesday. Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky said that the Hungarian Defense Forces and the Ministry of Defense consider the deceased soldiers as their own dead.
He said that an Airbus H145M helicopter of the 86th Kiss József Helicopter Brigade Special Air Operations Squadron crashed on Wednesday in Croatia, with three Hungarian soldiers on board.
Two of them died in the line of duty, in the service of their country, while the search for the third soldier is still on, he said.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with the Croatian Air Force Investigation Commission, the Croatian Chief of General Staff and the political leadership on the scene. Lieutenant General Gábor Böröndi, Chief of Staff of the Hungarian Defense Forces, is also on his way to the scene with a special team of experts.
Also in response to a journalist’s question, he said that until the investigation was completed, the Hungarian Defense Forces would not fly Airbus helicopters of the same type as the aircraft involved in the accident.
