Concert-theater and contemporary dance performances will be featured from July 2 to 5, at the VéNégy Festival and Theater Meeting in Nagymaros (northern Hungary). Festival-goers can enjoy free concerts after the theatrical performances in the Danube Bend.

Outstanding theater companies from the Visegrád countries will travel to Nagymaros from Banská Bystrica (Besztercebánya, Slovakia), Prague (Czech Republic), Krakow (Poland), and Budapest. In addition to the theater productions, the program also includes virtual reality (VR) theater, street theater performances, and puppet shows for families.

The performances explore the nature of human actions and the meaning of existence.

The festival opens on July 2, with the National Theater’s production Seven Dead Bugs Shine in her Wet Hair. This concert-theater performance, featuring the inner worlds of Miklós Radnóti and Fanni Gyarmati (famous Hungarian poet and his wife), is directed by Miklós Vecsei H. and performed with the musical-visual ensemble QJÚB.

The next day, the Slovak company Divadlo Štúdio Tanca will present its contemporary dance performance re-member, directed by Andrej Kalinka and Milan Kozánek (Honey & Dust). The piece explores the deeper questions of existence.

On July 4, the Prague-based company 420PEOPLE, celebrating its 15th anniversary, will perform Why Things Go Wrong, a contemporary dance piece examining the moral and ethical complexities of human behavior.

On the final day, Krakow’s Teatr Groteska will present Windows, a visual theater production where the story unfolds through images and sequences, much like a film.

The performance, described as a fairy tale unbound by time or space, centers around the concept of home, exploring how we try to put down roots in an uncertain, ever-changing world.

Polish group Concept Cultura will invite visitors into virtual reality experiences inside the VR tent.

Attendees can explore the planet of Oto, embark on a spiritual jungle journey, or even walk through the gates of Jurassic World.

The program also includes various street theater acts: Polish company Teatr Los Fuegos will perform, as will the Firebirds with a fire juggling show, and Slovak duo Kyselí Křastafci with a clown performance. There will also be an “extreme ski championship” for visitors.

Among the family events are puppet theater performances: on July 4, the Hahota Puppet Theater will present the Town Musicians of Bremen, and on the following day, Gyöngyi Écsi will perform The Water of Life.

The statement highlights that theater ticket sales have begun, with limited early-bird tickets starting at 5,500 forints (13.5 euros).

Attendees who purchase theater tickets can also access the evening concerts and street theater shows for free, except for the July 2 opening performance, after which ticket holders can request a festival wristband valid for any day.

Festival director Márk Kis Domonkos emphasized that the free concerts are intended to encourage young people to attend a theater performance and experience the liberating power of theater art.
