The Hungarian-Turkish Cultural Year, entitled “A Century of Friendship and Cooperation,” is attracting great interest with concerts, workshops, exhibitions, heritage conservation projects, and lectures throughout several towns and cities in Turkey during February.
According to the Ministry of Culture and Innovation, the series of programs “Beyond Borders: A Journey into the World of Hungarian Contemporary Art” was launched in Tekirdağ on February 13, with great success. The series of events in five cities – Ankara, Nevsehir, Kütahya, and Bodrum – present Hungarian contemporary art through the works of five Hungarian masters: Frigyes Kőnig, István Orosz, Róbert König, Sándor Krizbai, and Tamás Konok, as well as through related conferences and workshops.
The exhibition and related symposiums will explore the collaboration between art and science in the context of Hungarian cultural identity,
from abstract art to figurative works, through a range of examples, including the work of Victor Vasarely, Ernő Rubik, and Vilmos Huszár.
The presentation of innovative Hungarian applied arts in Turkey will continue: after Ankara, the highly successful “Glassification.hu” exhibition will open in Istanbul on February 14. The traveling exhibition, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in cooperation with the Hungarian Glass Art Society to mark the International Year of Glass, will showcase the works of 10 Hungarian glass artists who have won major awards at home and abroad.
In the coming weeks, the classical music concert series for the season will be launched in Istanbul, featuring seven concerts and seven piano virtuosos – József Balogh, Adrienne Krausz, Gábor Farkas, Róza Radnóti, Gábor Csalog, Fülöp Ránki, and Misi Boros – as part of the Liszt Ferenc Piano Season.
The concert series will be complemented by master classes given by the artists, allowing students to learn directly from the artists alongside the audience.
In February, in memory of the victims of the earthquake that struck eastern Turkey last year, the Kerekes Band will travel to the disaster-stricken area to perform in Malatya and Osmaniye for the homeless and relatives of the victims.
Also in February, the legendary Beyoğlu Cinema in the heart of Istanbul will pay tribute to the masters of Hungarian cinema with Turkish subtitles to films by Márta Mészáros, Miklós Jancsó, Ildikó Enyedi, Zoltán Fábri, and Marcell Jankovics.
