Hunor Kelemen, the candidate for the Romanian presidency from the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (RMDSZ), emphasized the high stakes in the November 24 elections.
He pointed out that the presidential race is crucial for ensuring that the Hungarian community’s voice is heard, as the RMDSZ is the only political force consistently advocating for their interests in Romania. Mr. Kelemen highlighted the need for strong RMDSZ factions in government to protect the Hungarian communities in Transylvania, Partium, Banat, and Maramureș.
The party leader also warned about Romania’s ongoing depopulation crisis, noting that without children, the future of the country is at risk.
He called for immediate action to reverse this trend, urging long-term family support programs to restore trust between citizens and the state.
Hunor Kelemen stressed the importance of creating local educational infrastructures, ensuring that every child wishing to learn Hungarian has access to education in their community.
In terms of economic policy, he advocated for greater support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which he views as the backbone of Romania’s economy.
He proposed government programs and tax incentives to ensure these businesses thrive, contributing to job creation and economic stability.
The RMDSZ centers around ensuring the Hungarian community’s representation in Romania, addressing the country’s demographic challenges, and fostering economic growth through strong support for local businesses and families.
