The Office of the Parliament and the International Children’s Safety Service hosted 800 disadvantaged primary school children at the Parliament’s Christmas party.
The event welcomed children from Hungary and Hungarian communities across the Carpathian Basin, celebrating unity, tradition, and the festive season.
László Kövér, Speaker of the National Assembly, emphasized the significance of the Parliament as a national symbol.
The fact that you are here today from different regions of the Carpathian Basin… is proof that this is more than just the Parliament of Little Hungary; it is the nation’s house. Welcome home, welcome home!” he said.
Mr. Kövér also urged attendees to show solidarity with children from Transcarpathia who could not attend, expressing hope they would join next year’s celebration. “Pray for the children from Transcarpathia so that they can be present at next year’s Parliament House Christmas for Children,” he requested.
The event featured a vibrant program of activities and performances.
Musicians Balázs Bolyki and the B4 music group, Petra Gubik, Gergő Oláh, and Csaba and Tamás Vastag delivered lively performances, culminating in a communal rendition of Kiskarácsony, nagykarácsony (a common Hungarian Christmas carol). Dance performances by Anna Mikes and others delighted attendees, while children participated in diverse programs across the Parliament, including DIY activities, face painting, games, and educational programs.
The celebration ended on a heartfelt note with a singing performance by children from Csángóföld (Romania), underscoring the festive and unifying spirit of the event.
The annual Christmas tradition at Parliament continues to foster joy and community among children in need.
